Seafood lovers are in for a treat this weekend with the big Seafood Fiesta taking place on Sunday at Urlings Wharf, organized each year by the Ministry of Agriculture, Lands, Housing and the Environment. From midday onward, indulge in culinary delights from the deep, with several vendors set up and serving succulent seafood like Coconut Shrimp, Seafood Gumbo, rice and pasta, Curried Conchs, Crab Cakes and so much more. The seafood choices will be endless and there will be something to suit everyone’s cravings.

The entire family is invited to join in and bring their appetites, as there will be live entertainment for all, improved facilities and menus that have been broadened to include a wider range of sumptuous seafood dishes.

Sugar Ridge has released their latest Sugar Beat Newsletter: The Food Edition, making your mouth water with Carmichael’s New Menu, which is filled with succulent starters and beautifully prepared mains and desserts. At Sugar Club, the weekly entertainment and specials continue, with Caribbean Night on Mondays, 2 4 1 Steak Night on Wednesdays with Arianne Whyte performing live, Seafood Fridays with Rico and his 4 Play Band and Live Music after dinner on Saturdays. Sugar Ridge also has a spa special on for April, offering an Elemental Nature Facial and complimentary Radiance Botanical Skin Resurfacing Treatment for one low cost.

Live music by Circle of Fire will be on tonight at Life on the Corner, all starting from 10:00 pm. Don’t forget, they open Tuesdays to Sundays from 4:00 pm on Sunday and from 5:00 pm on other days, serving dinner, drinks and good music.

If you enjoy Pan Music, come out to Heavenly Java 2 Go tonight for a Pan Showdown between local legends Lacu Samuel and CC Cochrane, displaying their skills from 8:30 pm onward. On Saturday the Panache Steel Band will be there filling the area with beautiful sounds of pan from 8:30 pm – 9:30 pm.

DJ Quixx is in tomorrow night at Abracadabra for his Friday Session featuring open formats, mashups and remix music. On Saturday Night, it’s a club night with DJ Woody on the decks for the front dancefloor, and DJ Jahny Gwapp in the back.

More Steel Pan music can be enjoyed eaach Sunday in April at Harmony Hall for their Musical Sundays, featuring Lacu Samuel and Vernie, providing melodious background music during lunch.

Hamilton’s Wine Bar & Bistro is adding some new tasty dishes to their lunch and dinner menus this weekend, including Dover Sole, Monkfish, King Prawns and more, so join them soon for a mouth watering meal.

Drop by C & C Wine Bar on Thursdays for their Lasagna Night, and on Saturdays, come out for an evening of fun and laughs at their Karaoke Night. They are open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 am, closing at 5:00 pm on Mondays, and staying open until late on all other days.

Sign up quickly for the Short Courses being offered at the Antigua & Barbuda Hospitality Institute at the end of the month, in Baking 101 and Caribbean Fusion Cuisine 101. There are only 15 spots for each course, starting April 23rd and 25th respectively, and both lasting for six weeks. Baking 101 will have classes on Tuesdays and the course will emphasize on Cake Decorating, with Caribbean Fusion classes on Thursdays, focusing on techniques and recipes for combining ingredients to create dishes with an international flare.


The Countdown is on to the highlight of the Sailing Season which kicks off with the Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta, running from April 18th – 23rd, then followed by Antigua Sailing Week from April 27th – May 3rd. For Antigua Sailing Week, the provisional racing schedule is available, and the party schedule has been released, packed full with activities and parties to deliver the greatest festival on island. They are seeking volunteers for their Sailing Week Antigua Team (SWAT) and will host a sign up event this evening from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at the Antigua Yacht Club, highlighting roles up for grabs like bar staff, media room manning and more.

Support the cyclists this Sunday at the 2013 Fig Tree Hill Road Race, starting off at 9:00 am from the Golden Grove School, taking cyclists on a grueling ride up Fig Tree Hill, through to Falmouth, Bethesda and ending at Pot Works Dam.

The Antigua Turf Club has postponed their Easter Family Horse Race Day due to inclement weather and the Meet is now scheduled for Sunday April 14th, at the Cassada Gardens Race Track. The race will see the return of Magnum and He’s Alive from Chief Rocker Stables and the island’s top thoroughbreds competing once again.

April is Autism Awareness Month and Salma Crump, blogger and mother of a ten year old Autistic boy, Kuba, has written the first article in a series throughout April, focusing on her experiences of raising an Autistic Child. Her first article, dubbed “Jungle Fever”, reflects on the movie “The Lion King” and Simba’s courage, and speaks on the contagious jungle fever of courage that she gained through her son, which is what motivates her to provide a better future for Kuba through daily efforts. Grab last minute tickets for the Annual Glaucoma Week Cocktail Party set for Saturday at the Blue Marlin Restaurant at The Anchorage Inn Hotel, to help raise funds for Glaucoma Awareness. The Survivors Reggae Band will be there to provide the entertainment for the night, and there will be lots of door prizes to be won. The winners of the “Oh So Precious Sight” Photo Competition that just has wrapped up will be presented with their prizes at the Cocktail Party as well. Tickets can be bought from any member of the Glaucoma Support Group, or from Dr. Bird or Dr. Zreibi’s offices.
The Holy Family Cathedral Steel Orchestra presents its Annual Easter Concert this Sunday, dubbed “Love on the Cross”. Enjoy an evening of Pan with the host band, along with others like Baxster Methodist, Zion Church of God and Panache Steel Orchestra.

The winners of the 2013 Wadadli Youth Pen Prize will be announced this Sunday at the Best of Books, where in conjunction with the awards ceremony, there will be a book launch of “A Certain Paradise”. There are writers that took part in the Pen Prize that produced promising stories and stood out among competitors – come out to show support for the winners!
The Department of Youth Affairs in conjunction with UNICEF will once again offer a Youth Media Workshop to 40 persons aged 13 – 20, providing training in TV and Radio Production, as well as Journalism and Photography. The course will run from Monday 8th to Friday April 12th and is a great opportunity to build skills in the media department.
